The new food pyramid, now a plate

Today the Department of Agriculture updated their food pyramid with new recommendations in plate form. The new look has a lot of people talking.

Here’s why we think the updated recommendations is a good step in the right direction:

  1. Fruits and veggies get a big boost in priority, now taking up 1/2 your daily intake. How exciting!
  2. Meat takes a less prominent position under the “Protein” group. Within this group are other foods like beans, peas, nuts and seeds.
  3. Dairy is less prominent as well.

In conclusion, we like the directions these recommendations are going. Obviously, we’re not big dairy or meat eaters here at Eat a Plant, but we do believe in eating lots of plants like fruits and veggies!
