Today the Department of Agriculture updated their food pyramid with new recommendations in plate form. The new look has a lot of people talking.
Here’s why we think the updated recommendations is a good step in the right direction:
- Fruits and veggies get a big boost in priority, now taking up 1/2 your daily intake. How exciting!
- Meat takes a less prominent position under the “Protein” group. Within this group are other foods like beans, peas, nuts and seeds.
- Dairy is less prominent as well.
In conclusion, we like the directions these recommendations are going. Obviously, we’re not big dairy or meat eaters here at Eat a Plant, but we do believe in eating lots of plants like fruits and veggies!
